Booking and scheduling
When should I book?
September or October for the install date you actually want. Installation runs mid-October through mid-December, and the last two weeks of November fill first because everyone wants lights on for Thanksgiving weekend. Commercial and winery properties should start in late summer.
How long does installation take?
Most homes are a few hours. Larger properties with landscape lighting can take most of a day, and estates with long approaches run to multiple days. Because everything is cut and bench-tested beforehand, install day is mostly hanging and weatherproofing.
Do I need to be home?
Only for the walkthrough. After that we need exterior access and a working outdoor outlet. Most installs happen while people are at work.
How far do you travel?
The city of Napa, American Canyon, Yountville, St. Helena, Calistoga, Vallejo, and over the hill to the city of Sonoma and Sonoma Valley. Calistoga is our northern limit and Sonoma Valley our western one — beyond those we cannot promise the in-season response we would want to.
Is there a travel charge for up-valley or Sonoma work?
No. Pricing is the same everywhere we work. The trade-off is that outlying areas are scheduled on grouped days rather than individually.
Pricing
What does it cost?
Most Napa Valley homes land between $600 and $2,400 for the season depending on linear footage, height and how much beyond the roofline is lit. Estates and commercial properties run higher. Full detail is on our cost guide.
What is included in the price?
Design, the lighting itself, installation, in-season service if anything fails, and January takedown and storage. There is no separate removal fee and no call-out charge during the season.
Do I buy the lights?
No. The lighting is ours. The seasonal price covers its use, the install and everything around it. You never store a box, replace a failed set, or find shelf space for it in July.
Can you quote over the phone?
We can give a realistic range. A firm price needs a twenty-minute walkthrough, because linear footage, access and roof surface decide it and none of those show up in an aerial photo.
Do you offer discounts for neighbors booking together?
Yes. When we are already set up on a block, additional homes that day cost us less to install and we pass part of that back. It is common on compact streets in American Canyon and Hiddenbrooke.
Roofs, safety and your house
Will you damage my roof, gutters or paint?
Nothing is nailed, screwed or stapled into your house. Every attachment is a clip chosen for that surface and removed with the lights in January.
I have a tile roof. Can you still light it?
Yes, and it is routine. We work tile homes entirely from the perimeter using gutter-line and tile-edge clips, and we never walk the tile field. Where a ridgeline cannot be reached safely we say so and redesign that budget into trees, columns and walkways. There is a full explanation on our tile roof guide.
Is it a fire risk?
Done properly, no. We use commercial LED drawing about a watt per bulb and running cool, calculate loads against the circuit, use exterior-rated GFCI protection rather than daisy-chained extension cords, seal every connection, and remove everything in January so nothing degrades in defensible space through fire season.
Are you insured?
We carry general liability and can provide a certificate of insurance for your property file before work begins. Hospitality and commercial properties often require this and it is a normal part of the process.
Can you work on a historic home?
Yes, and carefully. Nothing is fastened into heritage fabric. We use gutter lines, existing structure, tension runs and landscape-led design, and we check older fascia condition before clipping anything.
During the season
What if a section goes dark in December?
Call or text and we come out. In-season service is included, not billed as a call-out. A display that is dark for two weeks of December is a failed job however good it looked in November.
What usually causes a failure?
Three things, in order: water in a connection tripping the GFCI, a single failed bulb taking down a series leg, and a photocell sited where a porch light confuses it. All three are quick to fix.
What does it cost to run?
A few dollars for the whole season. C9 LED bulbs draw roughly one watt each, so a 200-bulb roofline running six hours a night is about the same as leaving two old light bulbs on.
Can you set the lights on a timer?
Yes, and it is standard. A photocell timer brings the display on at dusk — around half past four in December — and switches it off late evening without you touching anything. Larger properties get zoned timers.
Takedown and next year
Do you take the lights down?
Yes, included, through January. Everything is labeled by section and stored, so next season starts with a phone call rather than an attic search.
Can you take down lights someone else installed?
Yes, and it is a good share of our January work. Standalone takedown runs $150 to $700 depending on scale and access.
What if my lights have been up for years?
Removal is overdue. A Napa summer destroys cable — UV makes insulation chalky and brittle — and degraded wiring in the eaves through fire season is exactly what nobody here wants. We will take it down cleanly and tell you honestly whether any of it is worth keeping.
Will you store my own lights?
Yes, for a small seasonal fee, labeled and boxed. Storage is free for our own installs.
About us
Are you actually local?
Yes. Based in the city of Napa, veteran owned, family run and owner-operated. The person who quotes your house is the person who installs it.
Do you have reviews or photos of your work?
Not yet, and we are not going to invent any. This is a new business. Photos on this site are illustrative — they show what the service is, not jobs we have done — and they will be replaced with our own work, clearly labeled, as we complete it. Real reviews will appear with names attached when we have earned them.
Do you do commercial and winery properties?
Yes — tasting rooms, hospitality entrances, restaurants, retail frontage and event lawns. Quoted per property because run times, scale and access vary too much for package pricing. See our commercial page.
Do you install permanent lighting?
Yes. Track-mounted programmable LED, installed once, used year-round. It makes sense for people who have booked seasonal installs three or more years running. There is an honest comparison on our permanent lighting page, including where seasonal is still the better choice.
